THINK LONGEVITY (AVOID THE FADS)

A timeless garden design for a 1930s house with modern extension.

When we’re designing gardens, front of mind is longevity. After all, is there anything more soul destroying than devoting energy, resources and funds to something that will be uprooted as soon as the next homeowners move in? Landscapes take time to mature, plants take time to establish, trees take time to grow. Think about the future – how long do you intend to live with the garden, how can it be of benefit in the short term and what happens after you’ve moved on? We’d like to think it’d be passed onto the next custodian. For us, timeless design is the key to all of this – fads and trends fall in and out of favour and a garden can quickly look dated, which makes it so much harder for somebody else to live with.
