A THERAPY GARDEN INSPIRED BY MURMURATIONS OF STARLINGS

We drew our inspiration for this design from murmurations of starlings. Having recently read an article in Science News claiming that cells in the human body move in groups similarly to flocks of birds, the concept felt relevant to this garden. Murmurations invoke a sense of fluidity, grace and liberation and this inspired us to create a space that is both uplifting and tranquil.

DESIGNED TO BE ACCESSIBLE FOR EVERYONE

The garden is accessible to all, and is designed to allow rehabilitating patients to enjoy gardening themselves. Raised beds, which form the productive garden, have been custom designed for different users and a sheltered seating area provides a space for group gardening activities. The curved forms of the space are designed to be easily navigable for wheelchairs, and benches encourage people to sit and enjoy the space.

This garden won its category in the prestigious Society of Garden Designers Awards 2021.
