HAMBLEDEN VALLEY, THE CHILTERNS

A design for a large rural garden in the idyllic Hambleden Valley in Buckinghamshire.

A stunning location with panoramic views that the client asked us to amplify.

Working with the lay of the land, the lawn is stepped in sweeping curves that nestle the garden into the hillside.

At one end, the step functions as a seat for use during large summer gatherings (my client loves to host!).

The spoil from the dig is re-used on site, to create mounds or ‘landform’ down the length of the plot – interspersed with ornamental deciduous trees that reference the neighbouring woodland (and add much needed vertical interest) and sown with a specialist meadow seed to suit the conditions.
