A WOODLAND EDGE GARDEN IN THE CHILTERNS
This woodland edge Chesham garden design in Buckinghamshire was inspired by an area of woodland visible from the house. The intention was to give an immersive experience, with the raised deck cantilevered into the woodland scheme and the ends of the planks extending into the planting at either side of the path; the birch trees also bring dappled shade and provide screening from the neighbouring houses, and the sunken lawn loosely resembles a small glade. The rectilinear character and palette of hard materials was influenced by the 1960s house, carefully tempered by the naturalistic planting scheme, which includes a foraging garden interspersed among the trees.
This project was announced a winner in the Society of Garden Designers Awards 2020.
