A COLOURFUL FAMILY GARDEN

We were asked to design a colourful space to accommodate children and wildlife alike by the owners of this Surrey family garden, plus a sizeable productive area for growing vegetables. A generous terrace adjoining the house leads to a spacious lawn with a mature oak tree at its heart, punctuated with colourful bands of perennials and grasses.

BEES AND BUG HOTELS

The lawn gives way to a wildlife garden, accessed via a series of mown paths, that utilises a meadow style planting scheme with species chosen to attract the bees and butterflies. A pair of curved oak benches double as bug houses, and beehives and hedgehog houses are situated at the perimeter. The paths continue through a ‘broken’ beech hedge to a natural swimming pond at the end of the garden, a quiet retreat away from the house. The new kitchen garden is situated adjacent to the house with a favourable south-facing position and includes a dining area.
